Match the jeep to your child

• Age and weight: every ride-on has a recommended age and maximum weight in its manual or on the box. Follow it.
• Sit test: let your child sit in it. Their feet should reach the pedal and their knees should not hit the steering wheel.
• Parent remote control: many ride-on jeeps come with a remote so a parent can steer or stop. This is very useful for younger children.

Battery and charging

• Ask how long a full charge takes and roughly how long it runs, and what the manual says about the first charge.
• Use only the charger that came with the jeep, and charge it in a dry place, never overnight next to bedding or curtains.
• Charge the battery regularly, even in months when the jeep is not used, as the manual advises, to keep the battery healthy.
• During load-shedding, plan charging time around power availability.

Safety when riding

• Always supervise. Ride on flat, open ground away from roads, stairs, pools and parked cars.
• Use the seat belt if there is one.
• Start on the lowest speed setting.
• Keep the jeep out of rain and very strong sun when parked, and check the wheels and steering every few weeks.

Space and storage

Measure where you will keep and charge it. Ride-on jeeps are big. Check that it fits through your door and that you have a flat area for riding.
